AUTHOR GUIDE
How to get honest reviews for your book (without breaking Amazon’s rules)
THE SHORT ANSWER
Get honest book reviews by giving advance copies to readers in your genre, adding a polite request at the end of the book, asking newsletter readers, and contacting book bloggers. Never pay for reviews, swap reviews with other authors, or ask family to review. These break Amazon’s rules.
Advance readers
Before launch, send free copies to readers who enjoy your genre and ask them to leave an honest review once the book is live.
Ask at the end of the book
A short, friendly note on the last page asking readers to share their honest opinion works because it reaches them right when they finish.
Book bloggers and reviewers
Many bloggers review books in specific genres. Read their rules, and send a short, personal request.
What not to do
Don’t pay for reviews, offer gifts for 5 stars, swap reviews with other authors or ask close family. Amazon can remove reviews or restrict your account.
